Arturo Valdivia Ph.D. - Statistician & Educator

I am a statistician and educator currently serving as Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Statistics at Indiana University.

My teaching interests include modern statistical inference, linear models, and statistical learning, with an emphasis on experiential learning and reproducible computational workflows.

Recent highlights and selected teaching contributions

  • Co-author, Statistical Inference via Data Science (2nd ed., CRC Press, 2025).
  • Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award recipient, 2023.
  • Lead designer of the Statistics Specialization for the B.S. in Data Science and the B.A. in Mathematics with a Major in Statistics (program approvals anticipated for Fall 2026).
  • Architect of the Applied Linear Models redesign, transitioning the sequence into two independent courses—one applied and one theoretical—for undergraduate and graduate students. The new courses will be offered in Fall 2026.
  • Designer of STAT-S 100: ModernDive: Data Exploration and Storytelling. The new course will be offered in Fall 2026.
